Interior ceiling work can be practical during colder months
Because the work is indoors, homeowners may choose to schedule it when outdoor renovation is less convenient. If the house will be closed up during the project, discuss ventilation, dust containment and drying conditions for joint compound and paint.
Older plaster or recurring cracks deserve particular attention. A cosmetic skim coat may improve appearance, but the contractor should explain whether damaged plaster needs stabilization or a different repair first.
Ask what happens when the texture stops hiding defects
Popcorn texture can mask uneven joints, nail pops and patches. The quote should state how much repair is included and whether the contractor will skim the full ceiling when localized fixes cannot create a uniform result.
As with any older unknown texture, resolve testing questions before demolition. Do not base a safety decision on the texture's appearance or the neighborhood's age.
